Enjoying Flein on the Bavarian shores of Lake Constance

In Wasserburg, overlooking Lake Constance with the Alps rising behind it, lies the Schmidt winery. Everything here revolves around enjoyment, hospitality, and joie de vivre. A diverse range of grape varieties grows around the estate — typical of the Bavarian Lake Constance region. From these grapes, Sebastian Schmidt crafts white and red wines — and, since 2022, Flein as well.

In summer, guests can enjoy the terrace of the stylish wine bar “Pinot”. Its fine cuisine, a glass raised in good company and the breathtaking panorama. When the weather turns cooler, the Schmidt family moves into the “Rädle”, the family’s 300-year-old farmhouse. In its cozy dining room, they serve regional specialties and freshly baked wood-fired bread every day alongside their fine drinks. In addition to the vinotheque, there are also guest rooms to stay in — perfect for lingering in Lake Constance feeling just a little longer.

The Bavarian Lake Constance wine-growing region lies on the lake’s northeastern shore — where water, renowned wine villages, and gentle vineyard slopes blend into one another. Whether on a boat trip, taking a refreshing dip, watching the Zeppelins, or sitting on the terrace of the Pinot wine bar — the lake is always present. Further inland, you can cycle past cherry trees and horse paddocks or enjoy the warm charm of Bavarian tavern culture. It’s a region that manages to be both stylish and down-to-earth — and as an up-and-coming wine-growing area, it has long been making a name for itself.
